Safety Town Program

Do you have a child ready to start kindergarten in the fall?  Send your youngster to Safety Town, a popular education program offered each summer. Your child learns safety awareness in a fun and entertaining way using a child-size mock Ann Arbor “town” explored on bikes.                                  

• Each child receives  a free Safety Town T-shirt!  
• The curriculum covers using bike helmets and booster seats, stranger danger, fire safety, riding a school bus, pedestrian safety, etc. Songs, games, stories and art projects reinforce the lessons. 
• Sponsored jointly by the Ann Arbor Police Department and the Ann Arbor Public Schools Community Education & Recreation Department, the goal of the program is to help kids evaluate “safe” from “unsafe” when confronted with potentially dangerous situations.  We are aware of two incidents when Safety Town training helped save the lives of past participants.
• Children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2010 are eligible to attend Safety Town this summer.
  
• The program location is at Lawton Elementary School at 2250 S. Seventh, Ann Arbor, 48103.
• You now get the whole Safety Town Experience in 1 week!
• Save $ by enrolling by May 9th. The early bird fee is $65. After the deadline, the fee is $75, and children will be accepted as long as space is available.

Safety Town Program
  
⇒    Scholarships are available for those who financially qualify. 
⇒    Students can be placed with friends as long as registration forms are submitted together and special request is listed on form. 
⇒    In most cases we are able to place children with others attending their school.
⇒    Please plan on staying with your child for a few minutes the first day to find the location of the classroom and for a brief, but important, orientation meeting. 
⇒    The last day of the session is a graduation ceremony. Parents are invited to attend the brief ceremony, after which children are dismissed.

  SUMMER CAMP FOR SAFETY TOWN KIDS

Ann Arbor Public Schools Community Education and Recreation is happy to provide an exciting camp designed to wrap around Safety Town.  This offering is in response to requests from parents who need a full day/full week program. Safety Town Camp ⇒    Allows for an early morning drop off and evening pick up ⇒    Is held at the same location as Safety Town at Lawton School ⇒    Is available to all families who enroll in any session of Safety Town ⇒    Provides a fun-filled educational experience for your child ⇒    Is directed by enthusiastic, experienced, CPR and First Aid certified child care staff ⇒    Gives your child opportunities for structured active play, arts, & make believe

Safety Town Camp Schedule 7:30am – 9:00am     Supervised play 9:00am -12:00   Safety Town 12:00 - 1:00pm   Lunch (Children bring their own lunch & beverage) 1:00pm - 3:00pm   Story or Quiet Time/Fun Arts/Recreation 3:00pm - 5:30pm   Supervised play
